Local authorities and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ensure the implementation of the Health and Safety laws.

Health and Safety inspectors are authorised to visit a site unannounced. They may also call-in advance to make sure that the relevant staff are present.

You can be fined up to £20,000 or sent to prison for non-compliance.

There is no specific guideline related to validity of Health and Safety training from the HSE. However, it is recommended that the training is provided every year as a refresher course.
