What Other Courses Can Help You Progress?

The Spectator Safety course provides the knowledge required for the Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety. This makes it a good starting point.

There are other courses that you can take a good look at – to work in the security industry in the UK, obtaining an SIA licence is the first step. You must complete a licence-linked course to become a qualified security operative. Below, we have listed several security courses and provided brief descriptions of the roles they prepare you for:

  1. SIA Door Supervisor — Door supervisors often handle situations involving violence, as their role is to protect property and manage conflicts. Working as a door supervisor without a valid SIA License is illegal. This course includes multiple-choice questions and a practical assessment.
  1. SIA Security Guard License — The Security Guard course enables you to pursue a career as a patrol officer, retail security officer, store detective, and more. It can be completed in just 4 days.

One major difference between the SIA Door Supervisor and Security Guard Training programmes is that security guards cannot work in establishments where alcohol is sold. This is because the Security Guard course does not provide training in Physical Intervention skills. In such cases, you would need to complete the SIA Door Supervisor Course. Another advantage of the Door Supervisor Course is that it makes you eligible for all security guard roles in the UK.

CCTV Operator — If you’re aiming to obtain an SIA licence as a CCTV operator, this course is a suitable choice whether you’re a beginner or have prior experience. It fulfils the requirements for getting an SIA License.

All SIA Licences have a validity period of three years, except for the vehicle immobiliser licence, which lasts only one year. Once your licence expires for any of the courses mentioned here, you can take these refresher courses to continue your employment. You can access them through the following links:

It includes three courses: the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, Level 3 Award in Delivery of Physical Intervention, and Level 3 Award in Delivery of Conflict Management.

Another avenue within the private security industry is quality assurance. You can take IQA courses and gain experience as an internal quality assurer in various industries. This is a recognised qualification that can open doors to job opportunities throughout the UK. Here are the courses available:

Level 3 Award in Understanding IQA Qualification

Level 3 Award in IQA Qualification

To determine which of these courses aligns with your background and needs, a dedicated guide on this topic is available. It covers everything from who these courses are suitable for to the reasons a person should pursue them based on their role within an organisation.
